We offer convenient lodging when
visiting these famous ruins before heading west into Guatemala and
Tikal or east to further adventures in Belize or Mexico.
Deluxe
Rooms feature air conditioning, cable TV and private H/C
bath.
Our swimming
pool (rare in
these parts) features a rock waterfall that makes a wonderful fog of
cool air -- a fine thing on a hot day.
Other services include e-mail /
internet, phone, laundry service, off-street parking and 24-hour
security.
Our breezy upstairs lounge overlooks the Mopan River less than 100 feet away, a
popular stretch of river with a series of small waterfalls, where
women wash clothes on the rocks and locals of all ages splash in the
water to wash away the heat of the day. Directly across from the inn
take the hand-cranked ferry crossing leading to the ruins of Xunantunich,
the most-visited Maya archaeological site in Belize.
The atmosphere is a
unique blend of relaxed
Belizean culture with North American standards and personal
service. We're located at Mile 72 on
the Western Highway in the village of San Jose Succotz, a few
minutes east of the Guatemalan border town of Melchor and 7
miles west of San Ignacio town.
Succotz is a
lively village of about 1,200, populated mostly by Maya of
Yucatecan descent. You are invited to stroll its narrow gravel
streets, and greet the people whose forbearers are gaining
ever-increasing recognition for the extraordinary accomplishments of
their civilization.
The Magaņa Arts &
Crafts Center, only a few blocks east of the Inn,
features local artists' pottery, ceramics and slate carvings. A
few blocks further along the Western Highway you'll find Tropical Wings Nature Center, with it's
butterfly house, interpretive center, trails, gardens, and ruins.
It's a place you'll want to include on your stopover. When you're ready to move beyond Succotz, our staff will
be happy to point you toward the many destinations of the Cayo
District and beyond.
