I've been asked a lot lately how it was I became a photographer. So I thought this week I would try to answer the why with some of my earliest work.

The journey began in my younger days when I had great plans for my life to become an US Air Force test pilot - those plans shot down by bad eyesight. What followed? Joseph Campbell, a philosopher and professor of mythology that I greatly admire and read in my high school and college days, says it best for me:

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."

At 20 I let go, and the journey started...

The photo is from a sailboat journey I first-mated/captained for 6+ years (after dropping out of college for the second time); we are exploring one of the many fjords of Norway (that is an orange survival suit designed to give you a few minutes of time should you fall into the icy waters of the North Sea ... yah sure)
