PLANS FOR 1997

This year, although BETA no longer has funding to support an Executive Director and a full project, its members are committed to continuing the "Keep Belize Clean and Green" campaign. In addition to the annual clean-up campaign, BETA is also planning a massive countrywide tree-planting day for Earth Day 1997.

BETA would like to encourage communities to be litter free and to aid solid waste management programs. BETA also plans to develop an educational program to teach members of the tourism industry how to develop or improve the "ecotourism product" for long term sustainability of the industry.

BETA is also experimenting with a foreign membership drive. Visitors to Belize always take a little bit of us back with them, and we are striving to keep our pristiness, our freshness, and our natural beauty alive and healthy. You might think of this membership as supporting a natural part of the world directly. There is no administrative overhead here, only direct support for grass root projects.
